What Can Energy Healing Do For You?
Questions and Answers for Beginners

1) What is energy healing?

Energy Healing is a general term describing any form of healing that works on the energy centers of the body to rebalance, restore, or smooth out the flow of energy in your body.

2) How does it work?

Your body manifests different "layers" of energy referred to as the Human Energy Field; more commonly known as your aura. Your aura has seven different layers that interact with the chakras in your body. Chakras are energy pathways in your body. Circulation and distribution of energy to your body's tissues and organs travels through energy meridians. When your body experiences an illness or physical injury, blockages can occur in these energy pathways. The same is true if you experience a severe or traumatic emotional issue. An energy healer works on one or more of these layers to help bring the body back to its natural state of health.

3) It sounds a little unbelievable. Is there any proof that it works?

Energy Healing has been around for centuries. It was the only method of healing available in ancient times. Many cultures considered primitive by western standards have highly evolved healing practices. Many of these "primitive" healers have performed miraculous healings that have been witnessed and verified by credible western scientists.

A quick review of the literature or an internet search will provide you with a litany of naysayers as well as believers. I was skeptical at first too. But I witnessed my own amazing results and quickly went from being healed to becoming a healer. It was a life changing experience that has now become my passion and profession. A better question for you may be "Will it work for me?" The only way to find out for sure is to keep an open mind and try it.

4) What conditions or illnesses can be treated?

In general, energy healing has broad ranging effects. It will cleanse and detoxify your system, improve your circulation and revitalize your body. Often your physical sensitivity is enhanced in the process. Emotional blockages are released and your overall health improves. Energy healing has also been documented to help chronic pain in situations like fibromyalgia, burn recovery, cancer and HIV-AIDS.

Energy healing is effective not only on the physical body but the emotional and spiritual bodies as well. Different forms of energy healing offer different benefits. The best way to determine if energy healing will work for your specific circumstances is to discuss your situation with a healer.

5) I feel healthy. Can it still work for me?

You'd be surprised. I've had people come to me in good physical condition but their underlying energy situation is very different. In our era of fast foods, 10-minute working lunches, and weekend warrior maneuvers, it's not uncommon to find imbalances in people's energy field. Plus we've all experienced emotional traumas, usually from childhood, that tend to linger in our lives. Energy healing can help you free yourself from some of these patterns.

6) How do I find a healer?

The best way to find any professional is by referral. If you don't know anyone who has done healing work, contact your local spiritual or new age bookstore. Many offer healing classes or have healing professionals that you can contact. You can also contact an organization that supports healers such as the International Association of Reiki Professionals. It's important that you feel open to the healing energy and the healer. Feeling comfortable with your healer is critical, so discuss as many concerns or questions as you have with your healer.

7) Can anyone be a healer or is it a special gift?

Both. Most of us have some form of healing energy within us. Certain types of healing can be learned by anyone with a desire to heal and apply that knowledge. Reiki is one form that is simple to learn and very effective. But like anything else, to get the full benefit of your healing skills, you must use them.

Other individuals are "born healers" and seem to have a special ability to heal at a young age. Others "awaken" to their healing power later in life. I am someone who was awoken to this amazing power. But I also have spent most of my life in the pursuit of helping others heal in other ways.

8) What should I expect during a healing session?

The best way to answer this question is to talk to your healer. Healers operate in many different modes. Some touch a person's body, others do not; some use sound and color, others do not; some prefer you to sit, others want you to lay down. Don't be afraid to ask your healer what you can expect during a session.

9) If it's so effective, why aren't more people using it?

They are! The mere fact that you're reading this article is proof that energy healing is gaining ground as a holistic alternative to conventional medical care. Twenty years ago no one knew what acupuncture was. Now some major insurance carriers are providing coverage for acupuncture treatments. Our world is radically changing and people are demanding alternatives to the slice and dice, pill-popping approach that western medicine implores in TV commercials. The famous proverb "Physician, heal thyself" seems very appropriate in our over commercialized medical culture.

10) How can I learn more?

Read about it! There are a huge number of books on energy healing available. Some of the classics are: Hands of Light by Barbara Ann Brennan and Wheels of Life by Rosalyn Bruyere. Pick up some of the free magazines at your local new age spiritual center. Amazon.com has a vast array of books on energy healing. Most important, try it for yourself. You'll be glad you did!
